Victims of Crime

Special Considerations :

EcCare Health Centers offers special considerations and assistance for victims of crime. Medical care and bills should be the last thing a crime victim and their family have to worry about. Our health care team recognizes the impact crime has on victims and their families. We work to ensure victims are treated fairly and respectfully while providing services that lesson the impact of crime with an emphasis to restore the victims health. We work to remove all potential physical and psychological barriers left behind.

Legal Provisions :

We work in conjunction with local agencies as well as having close contact with the Texas Attorney General's Crime Victim unit in Dallas, Fort worth, and Austin. We can provide you with referrals and information so that you can take advantage of all legal provisions that are designed to assist you and your familes through these difficult circumstances. The process of taking advantage of legal provisions begins with filing out a crime victims application, and then having it submitted to the proper agency. We can help you do this, but to get started you can download it by clicking th link below :
Crime Victim's Application

We can help you make a difference :

Our health care team is dedicated to assist you. We know and understand how important it is to expedite medical bills to the government agencies. We have a proprietary communication protocol with our software management system that not only allows your bills to be submitted quickly, but also allows the transmission of the physician's analysis and plan of care to the Crime Victims Unit of the Attorney General's office. After your approval for us to communicate with the Attorney General's office, our ability to communicate to the legal offices helps you stay in charge of your own care.

I am Shirley Shepler and I would like to help you :

My name is Shirley Shepler, I have joined the EcCare Team and have a special interest in crime victims and families of crime victims. I have become a Crime Victim Advocate by having certified training from the University of Southern Colorado. Even more important than the training, I have a been brought to a keen interest in helping others as I have had to work through my own experiences of being a mother of a crime victim. Please contact me if you are trying to grapple with all of the details related to being a crime victim. Click on my name above to send me an e-mail.

Expertise to help Crime Victims :

All of our physicians as well as the other EcCare team members are excited about having Shirely Shepler as part of our efforts in the practice medicine. If you want some great reading, you will surely benefit from hearing about Shirley's story. She has authored a book My Reflection In His Eyes, which tells the story of her family's walk through crime and reconciliation. She has also been on talk radio shows and book tours while lecturing on her favorite subject of how to help crime victims and their families. Shirley also serves as a peer reviewer for the Office of Justice Program of Peer Review Database (PRD) in Washington, D.C. Shirley has also served on a Victim Impact Panel in Dallas County. Shirley is currently scheduled as a guest lecturer at Cedar Valley Community College Police Academy in 2012.
